Cate800-001 LED flash description

The purpose of this document is to describe the various flash sequences of the external Status LED and the Internal LED (Light emitting Diode)

When the Unit is first powered up the following sequence will be observed.

Internal LED
· The Internal LED (Viewed from the back of the Cate housing at the SIM card slot) will start of with approximately 1Second ON and 1Second OFF (equal duty cycle flash), it will flash like this for a few seconds (Network Dependent). After it has attached to the Network the Flash will change to a short ON pulse approximately every 3 Seconds. As long as the LED flashes with this short ON flash the GSM Engine is logged to the Network, if it resorts back to the 1Second ON and OFF sequence (see above), it has become detached from the Network for reasons such as the Network is down, or less likely the Antenna or Sim card has gone faulty or alternately the Cate unit has gone faulty.

Status LED
· Initially the Status LED is permanently ON whilst the System is busy booting and logging onto the GSM Network.
· After about 30 Seconds (Network Dependent) the LED will go OFF and then come ON briefly approximately once every 3 Seconds, thus indicating that the Unit is now in the standby mode either waiting for a Trigger event or to receive an SMS.

When an SMS is received the following sequence will be observed.

· At first the LED will come on permanently for approximately 2 Seconds, this indicates that an SMS has been received and is waiting to be read by the system
· The LED will then start to flash at a medium rate (approximately 3 Times a second), this indicates the SMS is being interpreted.
· The LED will then either

1. Visibly go OFF for a short period, carry out the SMS instruction.
2. Or If the LED does not visibly go OFF, but instead comes ON immediately for a few seconds (time varies, it is system and function dependent) it means that the contents of the SMS was not recognized because ether the Syntax in the SMS was incorrect or the sender of the SMS was not a registered user and the SMS is being deleted or There is no credit on the Sim card and it needs topping up. Thereafter it will go OFF and revert to the short standby mode indication as described above. When this happens you will not receive a confirmation SMS confirming that the instruction was carried out.

· After a successful transaction and the short period of the OFF state (as in 1 above), the LED will come ON again for a short period (time varies, but approximately 3 Seconds) indicating a successful transaction and that the confirmation SMS is being sent.

When a trigger or local event occurs the following sequence will be observed.

· To indicate that a trigger or event has occurred and that either an SMS is being sent or a voice call is being made to enunciate the fact, the LED will flash rapidly (approximately 5 times a second) for approximately 3 Seconds and then come ON permanently for approximately 3 Seconds thereafter going OFF and reverting to the short Flash standby mode indication described above. This is visual confirmation that the SMS handshake has been sent.

When the Panic button is depressed the following sequence will be observed.

The LED will start to flash approximately 1/2Second ON and 1/2Second OFF (equal duty cycle flash) thus indicating Panic mode. It will flash like this for the duration of the Panic Sequential dialing mode. It will stop and revert to the short Standby Flash 90 seconds after all the numbers have been sequentially dialed or when an SMS with the command "OK" is received.
