CATE800-001 Programming & Installation instructions

Fitting an Antenna

An Antenna suitable for the GSM network must be fitted to the "SMA" Type connector located at the back of the housing. A dual band aerial is supplied as standard with the Auto Cate in the box.

SIM card

Any SIM card can be used as Auto Cate has a dual band GSM engine in it. Please check that the SIM card you are using has the following SMS facilities enabled.

NOTE: Before connecting CATE to your Local GSM Operator the following must be done on the SIM Card.

· SMS Service number must be entered and stored to the SIM card
· The PIN number requirement must be DISABLED
· The SMS "Message" mode must be set to "TEXT".
· The Delivery Reports must NOT be selected.
· The SMS delivery time must be set to shortest, usually 1 HOUR

All these Setup features are best done by first installing the SIM card to an ordinary Cell Phone. The SMS Service Center number should already be recorded on the SIM card. If not then it can be obtained from your GSM Service Provider.

The Sim Card Reader can be found at the back of the housing, next to the antenna socket. The Sim Card holder is "Ejected" by pressing the yellow button firmly using a pen or other suitable pointed object. The Card should be inserted into the holder carefully take note of the proper orientation and then the holder should be slid back into position.

Connecting to your local GSM Network

There is two Light Emitting Diodes (LED, s) one is inside the Housing but can be viewed from the outside at the SIM card slot, the other is connected to the 6 Pin Molex harness connector at the front of the Housing this is meant to be fixed to the Consol or Dash board of the vehicle so as to be visible without intruding on the Drivers vision.

Setting up the Auto Cate operating parameters using a PC.
This is the primary and easiest way to program Auto Cate operating parameters. It entails using Windows Based Software along with the PC's RS232 (Com1 or Com2) Port connected to the Auto Cate RS232 programming cable available from your Autowatch dealer as part of the "Starter Kit". Each customer is supplied one starter kit FOC to program Auto Cate.

A 240v to 12v power supply is needed to power up AutoCate when programming is done. (This is supplied as part of the "Starter Kit")
The exe. Program is supplied on a floppy disc together with all the Word Documents explaining all the different Auto Cate functions. The exe program has to be copied from the floppy disc and put onto your computers desktop as a shortcut.

· Making sure that the 12v power supply is not connected until you have plugged the Auto Cate programming lead into the Auto Cate unit and the RS232 extension 9-pin lead is plugged into either COM port 1 or 2 at the back of your computer. If you have a new Laptop computer that does not have any 9 pin RS232 port at the back and only USB ports, you will have to get a USB to RS232 converter before you can do any programming of Auto Cate units. These are readily available on the Internet for around £27.
· NOW and only now, apply the12v power to the Auto Cate unit. Take note that both the LED's come on permanently, if the back LED (Look inside the hole at the back of Auto Cate below the SIM card slot) starts flashing then unplug the power supply and re power the unit so that both LED's are on constant.
· Having done this, execute the Windows based Software program called "Cate Setup". It is quite straightforward. You will need to enter all the operating parameters contained on the screen to your requirements, as when the unit is programmed, all parameters are programmed in mass.

· "Com 1 Connect / Com 2 Connect. You first need to confirm that the computer is connected to AutoCate and is functioning properly. Place your cursor on Com 1 Connect button and press the left hand button on your mouse.

· "Read Parameters". Now move your cursor down to the bottom right hand side of the program onto the Read Parameters button. Now left click your mouse and the computer will try and read the data that is already programmed in AutoCate. If your programming lead is plugged into Com port 1 then it will load the pre-programmed data into the program and at the bottom of the program you will see "Reading sequence started" and Below that "Reading sequence success". If you get an error box come up in the middle of the screen that says "Read failed, Check connections and re-power target" Click OK and then go back up to the top of the screen and press the "Disconnect Button". Now go to the Com 2 Connect button press that and try Read Parameters again. You must get the "Reading sequence started/ Reading sequence success" before you can continue with any further programming.

· "Input re-trigger exclude timer" setting. For vehicles this should always be set to 30 (Seconds). This has a range from 0 - 255 seconds and applies to how long it will take once a trigger input has been triggered until the Auto Cate will allow the next trigger on that input. Remember every time Auto Cate triggers it will send an SMS message to your phone. Once a trigger has been triggered it will sound the siren output for 30 seconds and send an SMS message, so there is no point in setting the "Input re-trigger Exclude Timer" to less than 30 seconds.

· If you are using the 2 analog input triggers then you can set them each to a high and low trigger value. The values entered on the PC program are in % values worked out on a 5v scale 0 volts is 0% and 5v is 100%. These 2 analog inputs have to be calibrated down to a 5v scale by the use of a load divided series of resistors. Please speak to Knightwatch before trying to use these input triggers so we can advise you as to what value resistors are required and how to connect them. (In the program there are 3 analog input settings. Although Auto Cate only has 2 inputs, there is a Big Cate unit with 8 inputs, 8 outputs and 3 analog inputs that uses this same software program, so ignore the 3rd analog input for the
Auto Cate.
· "Input Trigger to Phone Call Number Links" is again used to program different options on the big Cate unit so you can ignore these and just leave all 8 boxes on 1.

· "General Purpose Functions Register" is the different programmable options as described below.

· The "Access PIN Code" is the standard level of security used to send or change a setting on AutoCate. This PIN code can be anything as long as it is only 6 characters. ie. Numbers or letters but it is case sensitive for letters so when using capitals and lower case letters for your PIN, the EXACT it has to be used when sending Auto Cate SMS instructions. NOTE: Make sure, with some phones you can only start a text message with a capital letter and then it automatically drops to lower case letters.
· "Identity Code" is again six characters that can be numbers or letters and is sent with every incoming SMS message to your phone. If you have several vehicles it enables you to identify which vehicle has had one of its inputs triggered.

· "Input Phone Call Numbers". These 6 blocks are used to put in the 6 telephone numbers you want the Auto Cate to phone when any of the inputs are triggered. The numbers entered have to have the international code entered ie +44 and all 6 blocks have to be filled in. If there is only 1 number used then it must be entered 6 times.

· "User Telephone Numbers". If box 2 is ticked under the General Purpose Functions Register then these 6 boxes are used to record the last 8 digits of the 6 different Cell phones that can call / text and give Auto Cate SMS commands or change settings. Unlike the "Input Phone Call Numbers" all 6 blocks do not need to be filled in. You only fill in the last 8 digits of the phone number of the specific phones that you want to be able to SMS Auto Cate. When an SMS command is then received by Auto Cate it will first check to see if the last 8 digits of the phone number that sent the message is registered, it then checks the PIN code is correct and only then will it carry out the SMS instruction. If box 2 is not ticked then the 6 boxes must be left with 8 zero's filled in each box.

· "Analog Input to Phone Number Link" Again only Analog 1 & 2 are relevant for AutoCate. (Ignore 3). Here you can link the analog triggers to any of the 6 Input Trigger Phone numbers.

· "Program Parameters" When you have finished entering the different settings you can now put your cursor on the Program Parameters button and press enter or left click your mouse. You will see the LED on the programming loom will start to flash and the LED inside the unit will stay on constant until the down load of the data has been programmed.

· "Save" This is handy for saving all the individual customer settings programmed into each vehicle. You then have a record of what options you have selected so that if you need to check at a later date you can poll the Auto Cate and it will SMS you with the options selected and you can compare these with your records and see if they have been changed or not. Place your cursor on the SAVE button at the top of the program and press the left mouse button. This will then take you into "My Documents File". Here you can open up a new folder called Auto Cate Customers and within this folder you can have a multitude of different customer folders with the individual vehicle settings saved. If you are not sure how to arrange and open new folders then phone us at Knightwatch and we'll talk you through it.

· Load: This is used to re-open any previously saved settings that you have stored in your customer files. If you open up the exe. Auto Cate program you can place your cursor on the LOAD button and left click your mouse, this again will take you into "My Document" file. Now open the Auto Cate Customer file and look for the file you want to re-open. If you double click any file it will load the saved settings back into the program for you to view.
