1974 Honda CB500/4

This Bike Has Been Sold
I was about 15 when I first saw one of these back in the early
seventies and was completely awestruck by the four cylinder engine coupled
with the beautiful sculptured tulip exhausts. Not as bulbous as the CB750
the CB500/4 looked just right, handled better and was almost as fast, Honda
had done it again and made a world beater with their second inline four.
This bike is in extremely good condition, not concurs but
not could be with a bit of work, as far as I can tell the only non standard
part is are the rear suspension units & plug caps, I do have an original
shocks but the items need rebuilding and rechroming. I also have a spare tank
and side panels which in the near future I'll get resprayed to my favorite
metallic brown and black colours.
This Bike is
now sold
This bike was first registered in November 1973 so will soon
be celebrating it's 33rd birthday, it's had 5 previous owners, I've owned
it for just over a year and due to lack of space not using it and finding
2 stroke bikes of the era more interesting I've decided to sell. Currently
the bike has no MOT and is Sorn, I will MOT it early next week (end of October
06) The bike has a recorded mileage of a little over 28,000 miles, I have
all the MOT's dating from 1997 proving the mileage at least from that year.
It is as far as I know completely standard with the exception of the rear
shocks which are retro look adjustable Konis, it also had a Boyer Branson
electronic ignition system fitted. The bike was fitted with a Brand new front
mudguard in 2004 (costs £99) and a complete Honda original 4 into 4
exhaust system in 2005 (over £450) all of which are in perfect condition.
I have recent receipts for much work done which is in excess of £1200
for various services parts etc. The engine starts easily on the kick and electric
starter and has that typical Honda overhead cam rustle at tickover. The bike
goes exactly as one would expect a 500/4 to go, with typical Honda no drama
efficiency. As you can see from the photos the bike is in superb condition,
the only fly in the ointment is the cosmetics of the engine which could do
with a bit of polishing here and there, also a few areas of the crankcase
have been sprayed with Honda silver to not a particularly high standard and
really needs to be redone, don't let this put you off this is still a very
desirable bike and once rectified would make this nearer to a show bike. I
recently saw a CB500/4 sell on Ebay for £3250 admittedly it looked a
cracker which this one could easily become. The Honda can be viewed in Streatham
South London (SW16) just call the above number to arrange an appointment or
to ask any other questions. This is a great opportunity to purchase a much
sort after early seventies Honda classic 4 that can only appreciate in value.
